Legendary comics artist and writer, Howard Chaykin comes to Denver Pop Culture Con! He also created the revolutionary comics American Flagg and Black Kiss, and did modern updates of The Shadow and Blackhawk. Howard’s distinctive style can be recognized from the iconic 1977 comic adaptation of Star Wars as well as one of the famous Luke Skywalker movie posters for the film. Most recently, you can sample Howard’s irreverent writing style in Hey, Kids! Comics!, and The Ruff and Ready Show.
Howard was born in 1950 in New Jersey, but raised in Brooklyn, NY. He started his comics career at 19 as a gofer for the legendary artist Gil Kane, which led him to work for other comics greats, Wally Wood, Gray Morrow, Byron Preiss, and fellow DPCC guest Neal Adams. This is where he honed his skills as an artist and a writer. Before starting to work in film and television he was one of the pioneers of the graphic novel with Empire (1978) and Stars Be My Destination (1979).
